How to get the most from a Professional Tarot Reading

This is a long section in which I’ve tried to give you some advice about what you can do personally to get the best from a Tarot Reading.  Much of this advice is applicable to receiving an online or face-to-face Tarot Reading.  It can also be applied when receiving other psychic/divinatory service or even when questioning Oracle or Tarot Cards yourself.

Honesty

Try to be as honest and open when formulating your questions or intention as you can or you may be at risk of influencing the Reading energetically.  If you are desperate to receive a particular response you may influence the Cards drawn and so therefore the answer given.  For example, I attended a psychic development course with a woman who had for the last two years toured all the local psychics and telephone Tarot Readers asking whether her husband would come back to her.  All of them had said that he would, and gave various dates when this was likely to happen.  He didn’t come back.  This is an example of where someone wanted a particular answer to her question with such extreme desire that this had transferred to her energies and from there had been picked up clairvoyantly by the Readers, influencing the result.  Try to do a few calming relaxation exercises before the Reading and clear your mind as far as possible from your desired outcome.

Negativity and Fear

Any negativity blocks the energy of the process to some degree – so think seriously about whether you wish to proceed at this time if you feel you fall into the following categories:

*      If you are cynical and disbelieving of the process, by all means go ahead, but be prepared to waste your money.  In terms of energies, cynicism is the equivalent of wearing body armour so you are unlikely to receive your money’s worth.  Of course, it is totally possible for a skilled Reader to pick up on information for you but it is likely to take more time than if the Reading was for someone who is more open.  The answers may even be skewed and at the worst the Reader may not receive anything at all.  I also wonder whether you will listen to the information given to you anyway?

*      If you are sceptical – fine – I’m regularly sceptical about the things I experience and always look to the logical first. It’s taken me a long time to get to the level of belief I have in order to do this work but if the lights in my house start flickering I still check the electrical connections first before assuming a dead relative has come to visit!  Just ensure that you are open to the process and ready to receive the information you hear, even if you are initially surprised by it.

*      If you are frightened or unsure of how the process works I suggest you do a bit of research prior to paying for a Reading to put your fears to bed. That way you can understand a bit more how Tarot works before you start.  Read the information on this site, or sites like it.  Email a Tarot practitioner to ask questions or read a book etc.  Fear may influence the Cards to a degree but it is usually surmountable.  However I am more concerned about your own comfort level – you should be happy about the process before proceeding.  Fears of Tarot stem from misinformation passed through the media mainly or by word of mouth.  Tarot is not magic (bad or good), nor can Readers give an absolute statement of the Future.  The Death, Tower and Devil cards do not predict death and destruction.  If you have doubts, check out your Reader’s credentials first and ask them how they handle these cards should they appear.  That is the only way you will put your mind at rest before a Reading. The same applies if you are about to have a Mediumship Reading.  Rest assured you will not see ghosts or hear disembodied voices!  The medium is there to handle the communication – you just need to listen.

Clarity and Focus

Take your time formulating any questions you may have so that they are as clear and precise as you want them to be - that way the answers should be clear too.  There is another article on this site called How to Formulate Questions for a Tarot Reading.  This gives some tips for putting together some direct, focussed questions which really hit the nail on the head first time.

Openness

Be open to the responses the Cards give you. The answers may not be what you want to hear initially, but given time and consideration they usually are very informative and open up new avenues to you.  Also, keep your attitude open.  Clear your mind before commencing the Reading.  Keep your body open to ensure your energies are accessible to the Reader – especially if they are also Clairvoyant – do this by keeping arms and legs uncrossed.  And remember to enjoy yourself.

Give the Background

Having a Tarot Reading is an opportunity for you to get a new perspective on issues that are troubling you.  So if you wish to focus on a specific area – tell your Reader! This may seem obvious, but many people go to a clairvoyant with the idea of giving as little information as possible in order to “test” them.  If the Reader can then provide lots of “correct” information, this will confirm their authenticity.  If you still want to do that - fine – but realise that this is a bit of a waste of money – not to mention opportunity.  If you give the Reader the background, they will then not need to spend so much time establishing the detail of the issue for themselves via the Cards.  They can focus directly on the issue and provide you with a much more detailed response which gets to the nitty-gritty of the problem more quickly.

It’s rather like going to your doctor with a pain but not telling them where the pain is.  They would track it down eventually but would waste a lot of time and energy getting to that point and then may not have enough time to really help with the pain itself.

Positive Thinking

Most of all, for all Readings think positively and openly whilst making the booking or appointment, and for the days leading up to and during the Reading – and if you believe in your own Spirit Guides or Angels, you can always ask them to support the process!
